Outdoor newborn photography sessions have become more popular over the past few years. Families that have welcomed newborns into the world have wanted the option of still getting newborn photos but wanted to move their session outdoors for safety precautions. Outdoor lifestyle newborn photography is a perfect option for this situation.

What is lifestyle newborn photography?

With lifestyle newborn photography, the baby is photographed in a baby led way, with their family. Baby led means the baby is photographed in natural poses that they move into unaided. The timing of lifestyle newborn photography is more flexible than traditional posed newborn photography. With traditional posed newborn photography the session usually occurs between 5 and 10 days. This is because the baby needs to be asleep to get them into the different poses and it’s they still have the flexibility to position them into the various poses. With lifestyle newborn photography, the baby is documented however I find them, when they are ready for a session. This means a baby can be three days, three weeks or three months old. Some families also prefer lifestyle sessions, because they feel more meaningful to the family. They tell the family’s unique story because the images that are documented are ones with the family doing things they normally do together. Outdoor lifestyle newborn photography takes this experience and brings it outside either in a family’s backyard or in an outdoor setting.

This Maryland backyard newborn session was so much fun. Mom and dad were so happy to welcome their little one into the world. Being at home also meant that they could include their fur baby in the session as well. We spent a relaxed afternoon, at home, in their backyard documenting their family story. After the session we had a fun time designing custom artwork including a gallery of canvases which the family will enjoy every single day.
